Fuel Scarcity - Petrol might sell for N88 from today, April 1

According to reports, petrol might begin to sell at N88 per litre from today, April 1, 2016, despite the current scarcity of the product.

The new price will be used at Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) stations while other stations will sell at N88.50, The Guardian reports.


This was reportedly disclosed by the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA).

The proposal for the new price was said to have been presented to Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr Ibe Kachikwu by PPPRA boss, Mrs Sotonye Iyoyo earlier in the week.

The previous price of petrol before the change was N86 at NNPC stations and N86.50 at other stations.

The pump price had been reduced from N87 to N86.50 in December 2015.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has said that the fuel scarcity would be resolved within the next two weeks.

“The difficulties being experienced as a result of the situation will soon be alleviated. Our immediate concern is to make petrol available through the interventions and processes put in place so that the queues will disappear within the next one to two weeks," NNPC spokesperson, Garba Deen Mohammed said via a statement on Friday, March 25.

Kachikwu has also said that the petrol shortage will end by April 7.
