In a Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) game between FC Ifeanyi Ubah and Heartland FC on Wednesday, March 23, a brawl ensured after Ebele Obi who is the elder brother of John Obi Mikel pushed down the referee.
It was alleged that business man, Ifeanyi Ubah who is the owner of Ifeanyi Ubah FC stepped into the pitch to punch the goalkeeper before he was beaten by his security.
The billionaire business man escaped punishment after the game while Ebele Obi, Heartland FC and FC Ifeanyi Ubah were all punished for their roles in the ugly match brawl.
LMC however launched an investigation into the incident again following the emergence of video footages and found Ifeanyi Ubah guilty of encroaching field and assaulting Heartland goalkeeper.
He has been suspended from all NPFL match venues for the next 10 matches and fined N2.5m.
The business is is expected to offer a letter of apology and undertaking to be a good ambassador of the NPFL.
Following the allegations that Ifeanyi Ubah’s security aides allegedly attacked Heartland goalkeeper, the LMC further placed a ban all all self-procured security services other than those sanctioned by them from all NPFL match venues.
“4 of the 10-match #NPFL ban is suspended for a probationary period till the end of the season,” the LMC also said in a statement.
Ubah has up till 5pm on Saturday, April 2 to appeal this decision if he objects the ruling.
