Boko Haram - Troops rescue over 700 hostages in Gwoza


The Nigerian Army has rescued 701 hostages held captive by Boko Haram in Gwoza council in Borno state.

Speaking to Channels Television, the council chairman, Ibrahim Chikun, said seven wards in the council are safe for civilians to stay.


Chikun also said “Everyday we get reports from the Nigerian Army in Gwoza we appreciate their efforts and we are giving them all the necessary support at every given time. On Sunday I was in Pulka, as a result of joint operation of the Nigerian Army and their Cameroonian counterpart. They rescued a lot of our people, over 700 of them.”

Also, many hungry Boko Haram members have reportedly surrendered to the Nigerian military in Gwoza.

A Nigerian Army squad of the Armed Forces Special Force (AFSF), has also reclaimed Gudumbari town in Guzamala local government area of Borno state, and cleared all traces of Boko Haram from the area.
