Wife claims she never knew husband was an armed robber

A 26-year-old Ghanaian woman, Rose Oyesunmi, whose Nigerian husband, Segun Oyesunmi, has been declared wanted for armed robbery and assassin, has cried out that she had no idea that he was a criminal even though they have been married for seven years.

Rose who was full of tears at the Lagos State Police Command after she was arrested in his place, said she is opting out of the marriage and once she is freed, she is going back to her home country.

Her husband, Segun, according to the police, was involved in the attempted assassination of the Premier Lotto boss, Alhaji Akins Abubakar, who is principal manager of Baba Ijebu in Alimosho Local Government Area of the state.

It was gathered that Segun, who was one of the staff under Alhaji Abubakar's pay roll, had planned for his assassination before some of his boys were arrested.

Rose, a mother of two, explained to the police that all she knew was that her husband had a strange character and he kept to himself all the time and refused to relate with their neighbours.

She said she did not know that his strange character translated to his involvement in crime until she was arrested and was informed by the police. She confessed that her husband often slept outside their matrimonial home for days and made her to believe that he was going to work at construction sites.

She also revealed that Alhaji Abubakar that her husband had planned to kill was even the one taking care of their family and that he even employed him to earn money on his own before he planned to kill him.

The police reveal that Segun had allegedly contacted two of his gang members, Gbenga Olunuga, 35 and Paul Alimele, 35, and paid them some money so that they can rob and kill Abubakar, to enable him take over leadership of the business in the area.

While they were planning the crime, a member of the gang leaked the plans to a vigilante group who alerted the police and they were rounded up when they went to Alhaji Abubakar's office to carry out the hit.

During interrogation, the suspects confessed that it was Segun who was a staff of Alhaji Abubakar, that sent them.

The suspects were charged before a Magistrate’s Court in Ejigbo, and remanded in prison custody, while Segun, the master planner, managed to escape and has been on the run.
