Teenage girl gang-raped to death in Ebonyi

A teenage girl who was one of two girls allegedly gang-raped by six boys in Ezebe village, Umubo Autonomous Community, Onicha Igboeze in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, has died from injuries she suffered in the incident, reports South-South News.


The death of the girl is said to have sparked serious outrage in the community after one leader in the community identified as Chief Ogbonnaya Okereke, had arranged for two of the suspects to be given bail while four of them have been remanded at the Federal Prison, Abakaliki, the state capital.

Youths in the community were said to have taken the corpse of the late girl to Okereke, to register their displeasure in his role in the case.

The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP George Okafor, confirmed the sad incidence and said:

“There was a case reported, involving six boys, who allegedly gang raped two girls in Igboeze Onicha. The boys were eventually rounded up by the police and charged to court early this month of which two were granted bail while four others are awaiting trial.

We also got information that one of the raped girls died while receiving treatment.”
