Governor Ambode sacks 4 state officials over collapsed Lekki building

Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode has sacked the General Manager of the state Building Control Agency (LASBCA) Engr. Adeigbe Olushola, following the collapse of a five storey building in Ikate Elegushi, Lekki area of the state last week.

The uncompleted building, owned by Messrs Lekki Worldwide Estate, the promoters of Lekki Gardens, crumbled on Tuesday, March 8, killing 35 people.

According to a statement by the state's Head of Service, Mrs. Olabowale Ademola, the Governor also sacked the Head of Inspection and Quality Control in the Agency, Adeoye Thomas Adeyemi, the Zonal District Officer in the Agency, Dosunmu Gbadebo, while the Zonal Head of Eti-Osa West of the Agency, Mrs. Akinde Adenike Sherifat was compulsorily retired from the Civil Service.

The statement said the dismissed officers have been indicted of negligence, which is an act of misconduct under the Public Service Rule 040401.

The Managing Director of Lekki Garden, Richard Nyong and another contractor have however been remanded in prison over the tragedy, pending the outcome of police investigations, which would last for 30 days.

It was gathered that the state government had approved for the building to be a two-storey, but the contractors ignored the approved plan and went ahead with a five-storey construction.
