Factory workers arrested for stealing 'Ponmo'


Five factory workers with the Rainbow Network Limited, a company that specialises in the production of hides and skin, popularly called 'Ponmo' (a delicacy used in making soup), have been arrested for stealing the items which was valued at N2.8 million, and belonging to the company, Tribune reports.



The accused, Nathaniel Ojo, 33, Olokwu Daniel, 30, and Jude Thomas, 25, all security officers, as well as Richard Daniel, 36, and Micheal Adejo, 23, both factory hands, were arrested after the Manager of the company, Gbenga Ayodele, discovered that some sacks of Ponmo were missing from the warehouse.

On investigation, Thomas, the security guard on duty on the day the theft, was sacked by the company.

It was also gathered that the five men were seen at the warehouse where the sacks of Ponmo were kept, at about 1am on the day of the incident, carrying the missing sacks and were about to escape when the security guard on duty raised the alarm and they were arrested.

They were arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates Court where they all denied committing the act and the Chief Magistrate, Mrs Taiwo Akanni, granted them bail in the sum of N250, 000 each with two sureties each in like sum, while she adjourned the case till March 9, for mention.
