The rapper turned fashion designer has put out some very fashionable and stylish footwear and has had some major fashion moments. However, we should be able to distinguish between star power and actual talent.
West may have a thing for shoes but the whole idea of selling clothing that looks like it was dragged into the rat’s house and dealt with before arriving the retail stores at $2600 doesn’t make any sense at all.
Now, some may argue that it’s fashionable, after all, the pieces sell out. That’s where star power comes to play, as people will tend to get anything with a big name attached to it.
The same reason why if Adele released a line today, it’ll sell out in hours, if not micro-seconds simply because she already has made a name for herself as a singer and can basically do no wrong in the eyes of her huge cult followers.
Don’t get me wrong, she may have some great fashion creative abilities.
The fact that style is an individual effort doesn’t mean that the pieces being created by designers shouldn’t be well-thought out.
They should be aesthetically pleasing and versatile enough that people can then take them and put their own spin on them.
Even worse is the idea of placing ridiculous high prices on items of little to no aesthetic or creative value like that unreasonable Kanye West sweater.
High fashion is great when it has great quality and aesthetic, as there are people who make an honest living, who can afford it but affordable, quality fashion is even better, as realistically more people can afford it and still look nice in them.
Feel free to share your thoughts on the Kanye West sweater.
