EFCC to arraign FIRS director over bribery


A Deputy Director, Regional Tax Office of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Abumere Joseph Osagie, will be arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) tomorrow, March 10.

According to PM News, Osagie and his accomplice, Jamila Ojora will appear before Justice O. O. Goodluck of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Maitama, Abuja, on a two count charge bordering on criminal conspiracy and receipt of gratification.


On January 27, 2016, the duo allegedly approached Senator Datti, the Chancellor of Baze University, Abuja and gave him a tax assessment of N20,029, 496.00 through a letter of intent, which he paid.

Th report said when the Senator he requested for the assessment certificate, they refused to oblige him. Instead they allegedly demanded for N5 million gratification. All pleas by him fell on deaf ears.

He however petitioned the EFCC, and was advised to play along.
Consequently, in a sting operation, marked N5million was delivered to the director through Ojora. She was arrested after collecting the N5 million.

Her confession then led to the arrest of Osagie.

Operatives of the EFCC later conducted a thorough search of the suspects' houses, and recovered documents.

The two suspects are to be docked before Justice O. O. Goodluck of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Maitama, Abuja.
