Doctor suffering from depression commits suicide

Matthew Tuppeny, 30, a talented doctor has killed himself having suffered a long depression related to the fear that his health problems could stop him being 'the best' at his job.

He has had a promising medical career, but had been battling mental illness for six years since failing an exam at university.

He nursed a fear that an irritable bowel syndrome would further stall his career prospects, prompting him to a fatal overdose of antidepressants.

Joanne Bartleman, his fiancée woke up to find him having a seizure in bed at their Greater Manchester home.

He was then taken for medical attention in the Royal Bolton Hospital, where he died.
Before his death, Tuppeny studied medicine at Bristol University and had wanted to become a doctor in order to help others.

His problem began in 2009, after a four-year relationship with his girlfriend had broken down and he subsequently failed an exam and was diagnosed with depression.
