Ozor Akpudachie, a 72-year-old man based in Ogui-Eke in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State, has been arrested for running an illegal baby factory in his residence, Southern City News reports.
According to the report, Akpudachie had been operating the home for several years and when security operatives raided the facility, four teenage girls in various stages of pregnancy, were rescued.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), in the state, DSP Ebere Amaraizu, confirmed that the girls, all of them from Ebonyi State, are Chigozie Ejie and Chijindu Nworie, both from Izza, in Ezzamgbo Local Government Area of Ebonyi while Miracle Onwe, from Ntezia in Ishielu Local Government Area and Emmanuela Nwedu, from Oyikwa, in Ikwo Local Government Area of the same state, were also rescued.
Amaraizu said the suspect was being investigated for alleged child trafficking and added that the girls were now in police custody.
The PPRO also informed that Akpudachie was arrested following intelligence reports that indicated that he was operating a baby factory in his house.
The suspect had earlier been arrested by security operatives for allegedly operating an illegal fostering home at his clinic at Coal Camp area of Enugu but was released without prosecution.
