2 men sentenced to death for stealing mobile phones

Two young men, Omoilodan Seun and Gbenga Kayode, have been sentenced to death by hanging by a Lagos State High Court for robbing one Alhaji Jinadu of his mobile phones and money on November 2, 2011, as well as one Rilwan Gbadamosi and his wife, on November 9, 2011, of various items.


The convicts who committed the offence at Ayangburen Road in Ikorodu area of the state, were arraigned before Justice Oluwatoyin Ipaye, on charges of attempted robbery and armed robbery.

Despite pleading not guilty to the charges, Justice Ipaye sentenced them to death, having found them guilty of the offence of conspiracy, armed robbery and attempted armed robbery brought against them by the state.

According to the prosecution, the offence is contrary to Section 295 subsection (2) (b) of the Criminal law of Lagos State.
