Obianke was charged before Magistrates Salamiah Salleh and Moh'd Azali Ibrahim at the Petaling Jaya Magistrate Court after it was discovered that he had duped two women, Foo Pooi Yun, 38 and S. Vanitha, 31, of a huge amount of money after making them believe that they had received a parcel containing gifts from overseas that required them to deposit RM10, 500, (about $2,389), into a bank account between August 24 and September 14, 2015.
The parcels, according to Obianke, were supposed to contain a handbag, laptop, mobile phone, watches, sunglasses and perfume.
He was charged under Section 420 of the Penal Code of Malaysia for cheating, an offence that carries a 10-year jail term, public caning and a fine if convicted.
However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the offence and was granted bail in the sum of RM11,000 ($2,503), with one surety for both charges. He was also ordered to surrender his passport to the court so as to stop him from fleeing the country.
