Details of ministers' N13.3m annual salary each


Newly appointed Ministers in the President Muhammadu Buhari led administration would be earning a total of N485m yearly.

According to a report by Punch, this is because the new remuneration packages of the 37 ministers is still been processed, hence, the new ministers would be paid in accordance with the existing statute.


While the senior ministers would be taking home a total of N13.3m (N13,374, 240 for each minister excluding the optional vehicle allowance), the junior ministers would be going home with N12.5m (N12,597,332 for each minister excluding the optional vehicle allowance) annually.

Here is a detailed expenditure process as basic and annual salaries for newly sworn-in senior and junior ministers.

Senior Minister

According to the current package, the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola; Minister of Transport, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi; Minister of Information and Culture, Mr. Lai Mohammed and other senior ministers will get this package each.

Housing Allowance: N4,052,800 (The annual housing allowance is 200% of a minister’s annual remuneration)

Furniture Allowance: N6, 079,200 as furniture allowance. (The furniture allowance is 300% of a minister’s annual salary. Unlike the housing allowance, however, the furniture allowance is paid once in four years. This means the furniture allowance per annum is N1,519,800.)

Motor Vehicle Allowance: N8,105,600 (optional as the motor vehicle allowance is, however, a loan repayable by the end of the tenure of the minister)

Annual Basic Salary: N2,026,400

Monthly Basic Salary: N168,866:66

Monthly Perks

Vehicle Fuelling and Maintenance Allowance: N126,650 monthly and N1, 519,800 annually (the vehicle maintenance allowance is 75% of the annual basic salary)

Personal Assistant Allowance: N506,600 per annum and N42,216.66 monthly (this allowance is calculated as 25% of the basic salary)

Domestic Staff Allowance: N1,519,800 yearly and N126, 650 monthly (this is 75% of the annual basic salary)

Entertainment Allowance: N911,880 annually and N75,990 per month. (this is 45% of the annual basic salary)

Utilities Allowance: N607,920 per annum and N50,660 per month (this is 30% of annual salary)

Monitoring Allowance: N405,280 per annum and N33,773.33 per month (This is 20% of their annual basic salary)

Newspapers/periodicals: N303,960 per annum and N25,330 per month (This is 15% of the annual basic salary)
Tour Duty Allowance: N35,000 per night; the estacode is $900 per night

Leave Allowance:  N202,640 (10% of annual salary)

Other allowances with provisions for are security personnel, medicals and special assistants.

Total: N13,374, 240 per minister excluding the optional vehicle allowance.

For 24 senior ministers: No less than N320,981,760.

Junior Minister (Minister Of State)

Housing Allowance: N3, 915,160 (The annual housing allowance is 200% of a minister’s annual remuneration)

Furniture Allowance: N5,872,740 as furniture allowance. (The furniture allowance is 300% of a minister’s annual salary. Unlike the housing allowance, however, the furniture allowance is paid once in four years.)

Motor Vehicle Allowance: N7, 830,320 (optional as the motor vehicle allowance is, however, a loan repayable by the end of the tenure of the minister)

Annual Basic Salary: N2,026,400

Monthly Basic Salary: N168,866:66

Monthly Perks

Personal Assistant Allowance: N489,395 per annum and N40,782.91 monthly (this allowance is calculated as 25% of the basic salary)

Domestic Staff Allowance: N1,468,185 annually and N122,348.75 monthly (this is 75% of the annual basic salary)

Entertainment Allowance: N880,911 annually and N73,409.25 per month (this is 45% of the annual basic salary)

Utilities Allowance: N587,274 per annum and N48, 939.50 per month (this is 30% of annual salary)

Monitoring Allowance: N405,280 per annum and N33,773.33 per month (This is 20% of their annual basic salary)

Newspapers/periodicals: N293,637 per annum and N24, 469.75 per month (This is 15% of the annual basic salary)

Tour Duty Allowance: N30,000 per night; the estacode is $900 per night

Leave Allowance:  N195,758 (10% of annual salary)

Other allowances with provisions for are security personnel, medicals and special assistants.

Total: N12,597, 332 per junior minister excluding the optional vehicle allowance.

For 13 junior ministers: No less than N163,765,316.
